5/Five Poster
An experimental poster based on the repetitive, robotic nature of Kraftwerk's 'Pocket Calculator.' The poster is designed for 5/Five, a fictional music festival featuring five music artists of varying styles and genres. The poster's visuals are made by my own 'drawing-machine' — a mechanic method of mark-making, completed using the open end of a plastic brush tube dipped with black indian ink. The ink is then applied in a circular motion on paper, constrained by the inside of a masking tape roll. The result was a shape reminiscent of buttons, and metal washers, i.e. machine parts.
Realising that CMYK colours could not effectively portray the energy, vibrancy and pops of sound throughout the music, bright sticker dots were pasted onto the final printed poster. The lone silver dot amongst the bright fluorescent orange dots conveys that through the repetition of sound, there are moments where new beats and tones are introduced.
